WEAPONS MONITORING SYSTEM
Nor Ain Izati Binti Ibrahim
In the wake of the recent tragedy at Christchurch, many citizens were killed due to poor management and control over weapons inventory. The free trade of weapons caused risk of security among citizens. Therefore, Weapons Monitoring System (WEMS) was developed in order to monitor the movement of weapons equipment in Malaysia. This system is developed in order to prevent problems regarding country’s safety. The first problem is the movement of weapon is not recorded in any systems which make it hard for the police organisation to know the safety level of an area. Next problem is the information regarding those who have the weapon license is also unreachable. So, the main objective of this system is to maintain the country’s safety by providing record on the movement of weapons. Besides, this system is aimed to detect the number of people who have the weapon license in an area thus make it easier for further investigation by police. This system also can detect the number of weapons available in an area so that the safety level of the area can be monitored. The uniqueness of this system is that it can be accessed by authorities such as police officer using their ID number. Once they detect suspicious number of weapons in a place, further action can be taken in order to prevent danger such as terrorism and so on. So, this system obviously can prevent illegal use of weapons and prevent any cases related to weapon usage. By allowing access to the police, it is easier for them to track down suspicious action regarding weapons as well as terrorism. This system is hoped to be used widely not only in Malaysia but also in other country that require a monitoring tool in terms of their safety.
